Aussies Put Kiwis over Down Under

Four new Zealanders traveled "across the ditch" to Liverpool, Australia, this weekend to compete in the big PWWA event.  The high profile main event featured Madison Eagles defending her SHIMMER title in a three-way match against countryman Jessie McKay and Candanian Nicole Matthews.  Earlier though four women from New Zealand were in action.  All hail from the Impact pro Wrestling (IPW) promotion in Auckland.  The first two, Just Plain Evil (JPE) and Britenay lost their matches, but the next two, Megan-Kate and Evie, won their matches against two outstanding Australian workers.  Given the rivalry between Aussies and Kiwis, it was quite a compliment for these young girls to be "put over" on their first international wrestling tour.  In fact, their weekend was so big that they won the night before too, at a PWA show, where they took the ring as part of an eight woman tag match.  Evie and Megan-Kate as the tag team BFF, teamed with Jessie McKay and Kellyanne English to defeat Kellie Skater, Madison Eagles, JPE and Britenay! It is notable that PWWA set the Megan-Kate and Evie singles matches leading up to the main event.  Megan-Kate v Savannah Summers capped the first half of the show leading to intermission, and the Skater v Evie match kicked off the second half and was preamble to Main Event.  The card order shows how highly PWWA thinks of these young wrestlers.  What speaks even louder is that fact that veterans Savannah and "Rate Tank" Skater put them over on a big night near Sydney.  They have the look, the attitude, the gear, and most importantly, the wrestling talent, to be a big part of the indy wreslting scene worldwide over the next decade.  When you watch them wrestle, you think Brittany Knight.

Here is a sampling from the card:

_ Britenay (NZ) vs. Shazza McKenzie to open the show. Shazza McKenzie won the match after hitting the Shaztastic Stunner.
_ Harley Wonderland and JPE (NZ) taking on Victoria’s Eliza Sway and Kellyanne English.  English took the beatdown for most of the match but made a comeback and the hot tag to Sway. In the end, Sway/English get the win.
_Savannah Summers attacked her opponent Megan-Kate (NZ) made her way out. Megan-Kate scored the victory and Savannah left the ring in disgrace.

* Intermission.

_“The Rate Tank” Kellie Skater vs. Evie (NZ) is up next to ring back in the action after a short break. Evie takes the win after an impressive, hard-hitting match!
_ The main event! Canada’s Nicole Matthews vs. “Everybody’s Favourite Girlfriend” Jessie McKay vs. champion Madison Eagles for the SHIMMER title. Madison hit the Hellbound on Nicole Matthews and retains the championship after an excellent match.

Without a doubt Megan-Kate and Evie are two to watch as they continue to blossom into fine, hard-hitting, technically sound wrestlers.  it is their stated goal to step into the SHIMMER ring some day.  For their first international trip, they got pretty close -- they got to see (and touch) the belt.  They saw a SHIMMER title defense in the main event.  I'm sure it's a weekend they will not soon forget.  Where will they be off to next?
