Mia Yim Fantasy League -- Japanese Opponents

Mia Yim plans to be in Japan mid-July to late-August, and mid-December to early-January 2012
Mia enjoys flying the REINA flag
When Mia Yim ( http://miayim.com/ ) returns to Japan next month, she will be working for REINA, Yumiko Hotta's new international promotion.  That means her possible opponents will be limited to those that Hotta signs to REINA cards.  There are a number of wrestlers she is not likely to face because they tend to work other promotions exclusively.  Nevertheless, there are a number of "freelance" workers in Japan today, so one may fantasize about possible "dream matches" between Mia and some of the best workers on the circuit in Japan today.
Mia tattoos Matsumoto, REINA 2

Hotta has done a great job of getting Mia in the ring with outstanding talent during her first tour with REINA in May.  She battled young phenom Hiroyo Matsumoto of S-Ovation and SHIMMER fame at REINA 2.  Later she tagged with Aki Kambayashi to take on her friend Hailey Hatred and the great Manami Toyota -- neither of whom she had faced previously.  Amazing experience and opportunity for Mia's first trip to Tokyo and the joshi puroresu scene.  Matsumoto and Toyota would certainly have made my top-10 list of opponents for Mia (indeed my top-5), but who else might fans want to see Mia face either in July-August or December-January when she returns to Japan?

Manami Toyota teaches Mia a hard lesson, REINA 3
Here is my personal list, arbitrary though it is, of Mia's possible opponents -- at least in my fantasy league.  I have listed them in reverse order:
10.  Syuri (SMASH/free):
Everybody loves Syuri.  She has a MMA background in karate, similar to Mia, so Syuri loves to kick.  She is not really a flyer, so her style matches well with Mia's.  She is tough and confident and has had great battles recently with Kana and Hikari Shida, which is about all the resume one needs these days.  She is one of the favorites of SMASH boss Tajiri and he loves to feature her with strong bookings.  This would be a great match-up for Mia and not a mismatch in any way -- these two are evenly paired. Website:  http://www.diamondblog.jp/syuri/

Hometown:  Ebina-City, Kanagawa, Japan
Date of birth:  February 8, 1989
Height:  164 cm
Weight: 51kg

Syuri is half Japanese(father) and half Filipino(mother) fighter.
She had trained in Karate since she was in primary school and earned numerous
Karate championship titles. She was talented in sports and did well in track and
field in junior high and tennis in high school. After graduating high school, Syuri had
worked as a model for fashion magazines and appeared as an extra in a movie and
she also passed a wrestling audition provided by Hustle Wrestling.
Syuri debuted Hustle Tochigi event on 10/26/2008 as KG(Karate Girl) and had been fought against the top pro-wrestlers, Genichiro Tenryu, etc since then.Syuri made her own aggressive wrestling style called "Strong Hustle" with a pro-wrestler,Hajime Ohara and her cute-looking also attracted lots of attention during her career in Hustle Wrestling.

On Dec/2009, she was invited to SMASH Wrestling and won a decision over her opponent,
ASAKO at JEWELS 6th RING, a women's MMA event at Shinjuku FACE. In 2009, she received JEWELS Rookie of the Year Award. She will definitely achieve a remarkable breakthrough as not only a pro-wrestler but a MMA fighter too.

9.  Yumi Ohka (WAVE/free):
Yumi Ohka came up with Jd' and has worked her way up from a cute face with limited wrestling skill, to a tough, technical worker who is the mainstay of Gami's WAVE promotion and a credible main event feature.  She is also working on her heel side with Black Dahlia.  She would be a strong and interesting opponent for me:  Beauties with Attitude!  Website:  http://ohkayumi.blog.players.tv/

Official websites (Japanese):

Yumi Ohka is a 9-year veteran of puroresu who now competes for WAVE. She has been with the promotion since the beginning after competing primarily for the JD’star promotion from her debut in 2001 until 2007, thus she is considered to be one of a handful of the promotion’s former “Grapple Beauties/Athresses” as she may be more popular/well-known for her looks than her wrestling abilities. She is one of a few joshi wrestlers who holds the honor of being at least a one-time DDT Iron Man Heavy metal weight Champion.
In summer 2009 Ohka began competing occasionally as the masked wrestler “Sakura Candle” in WAVE and occasionally on special events/shows such as the Fukumen Mania series and similar events. She still competes primarily as herself though. Ohka also began participating regularly in OZ Academy in early 2010 following “recruitment” by Mayumi Ozaki and OZ Academy interfering in WAVE matches and causing some controversy. In 2011 Ohka completed making what looks to be a full heel turn and has also formed her own joshi heel faction with Bambi & Misaki Ohata among others. She also finally got the better of GAMI in WAVE, dominating the veteran in a singles series after always being on the losing end in singles matches.

8.  Hikari Shida (Ice Ribbon):

Hikaru is one of the great young stars of ice Ribbon.  She has tagged with Tsukasa Fujimoto and also Syuri.  She brings a bright technical skills, passion, and intelligence to the ring.  She is a tough, committed young worker with a very big up-side and a bright future in joshi puroresu.

7.  AKINO (free):
One of the great strikers in the game.  A gutsy all-around wrestler who began tagging with Ayako Hamada in ARSION in the late 1990's. Mika Akino has a great pedigree in joshi puroresu, learning from the hard knocks of Aja Kong and Yoshida in ARSION where she tagged and feuded with Hamada, Ohmukai, and Fujita.  She is one of the respected, veteran workers today who matches up well with Mia Yim, style-wise, but has a few tricks up her sleeve to teach the young American.

6. Kaori Yoneyama (JWP):
Kaori is no longer the rising star of JWP; with Azumi Hyuga's retirement, she is now the rock and strap holder of the storied promotion.  Called the mini-Toyota, kaori packs intelligence, energy, humor, and acrobatic skill into her matches.  She is a maelstrom in the ring -- a tornado of kicks, flips, punches and locks that make you scream.  Currently she is out with a broken jaw, but I hope that when Mia returns in December, Kaori will be fit to fight!  Check out her new website! http://kaori-yoneyama.com/index.html

5.  Aja Kong (free):
The most feared wrestler in joshi puroresu for the past two decades.  She has stood toe to toe with the best women in the business and beaten them all:  Lioness, Chigusa, Dump, Devil, Kandori, Toyota, Ozaki, Bull, Hokuto, Awesome Kong, and the list goes on and on . . .  To step in the ring with this woman is the equivalent of stepping into the ring with Awesome Kong, someone that Mia has long wished to wrestle.  One good Kong, deserves another!

4.  Io and Mio Shirai (free):
If I had to choose for a singles match, I'd choose Io.  But a tag match with both Shirai sisters would be my ultimate fantasy.  I would love to see Mia have Hailey Hatred as her partner for this match.  Io is a technical genius and a lucha high-flyer.  Mio is more of a kicker and someone that executes well, but is not flashy (more like Mia herself).  Website: http://ameblo.jp/shirai-s/

3.  Takako Inoue (LLPW/free):
One of the great cougars in joshi puroresu today.  Gorgeous at age 41 and still a formidable wrestler who is more savvy and clever than ever.  Takako continues to wrestle for LLPW (which does very few shows) and OZ Academy that does one show per month.  She has also branched out into modeling, photobooks, and other media expressions.  We Takako fans are delighted that she still loves to wrestle -- one of the great workers from the golden generation in AJW (early '90s).   Website: http://ameblo.jp/takaco-i/

2.  Ayumi Kurihara (free):
Arguably the most well-known and well-loved wrestler of her generation.  An international superstar, Ayumi wrestles before huge crowds that love her heart and fearless passion for the sport.  She has been hugely popular in North America where she has worked for CMLL and AAA in Mexico and SHIMMER and ROH in the United States.  Ringstars follows Ayumi's career: http://ameblo.jp/ringstars/theme-10036030748.html

Mia has gotten to know Ayumi a little at SHIMMER and ROH here in the USA and also met her at several shows in Japan this past May.  I think they have a mutual respect and would make a very good match in the ring.

1.  Kana (SMASH/free):

Not much need be said about this feared, respected, and admired joshi puroresu star.  Indeed she transcends the women's wrestling category and aspires to be a wrestler that can work men and win -- this is also one of Mia's goals.  Kana and Mia both use their sexuality as an asset of which they are aware (gear, attitude), but it is not to overshadow their athleticism or wrestling skill. Like Mia, Kana shows an incredible savvy marketing touch and uses social media well to promote herself -- from an active Twitter account to a bourgeoning Facebook presence.  We Kana fans are dying to witness her US debut, and hopefully that will come soon at SHIMMER or elsewhere.  In the meantime, Mia has a chance to encounter Kana on the latter's home turf in Japan.  It would be the match of Mia's life -- a true dream match for her -- because she has admitted to looking up to Kana and wanting this match, above all others.
